11 titanic facts about Marcus Mariota's magical NFL debut

In what truly might have been an NFL first, a rookie quarterback — Marcus Mariota — was pulled from his NFL debut because his team, the Tennessee Titans, were winning by so much there was no reason to expose him to risk of injury. (It was 42-7 at the time.) Here are some amazing stats from the Oregon quarterback and No. 2 draft pick’s debut which, of course, came against the No. 1 pick, Jameis Winston and his Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
1. Mariota threw four touchdown passes in the first half. The only other rookie in history to throw for four touchdowns in a season opener (not in a half, mind you, but a full game) was Fran Tarkenton all the way back in 1961.
